Hi, folks
My name is Ren from South Korea.
Here's my culinary biography with some of questions and answers that can explain myself
Welcome and please enjoy it!
- Why you want to be a Chef?
Back in the days, I was working as a buyer, visual merchandiser and shop manager for roughly 4years in fashion industry of South Korea. At the time my life was on quite good salary and stable but I was getting tired of people who were working with me and losing passion for the job.
And one day, very spontaneously, I decided to go to Nepal for seeing and climbing one of the mountain range of Himalaya. It was first trip that I had ever made out of Korea and I stayed there for a month climbing and doing a bunch of different stuffs that I wouldn't do in my country. After finished the trip, I decided to leave the fashion industry and took myself to Australia. The reason was good enough to leave everything behind, the world is huge and I want to explore and find once again what I want to do in my life.
A few years passed until I came to Canada, during the years, I was working in kitchen most of the time as kitchen hand, prep cook and commi chef but I was worked there for just making money not with passion, because at the time, as an foreigner you do not have variety of choice because of a language barrier, and most importantly I always have this burning desire to work that I want to make money by utilizing creativity and it has to be got a sort of foam and platform that enable to express my mind but I was never thought that it could be a chef at the time. It was for just living and pay my bills, there was no meaning up for that. It was very hard time, with the sense of not knowing that what my life is going to be. And one day, I had chance to watch a show that on the Netflix which was one of those episodes of the Chef's table. As soon as I started to watch the show I was fascinated by the cooking technique and philosophy that they have, it was completely mind-blowing and it changed my whole notion of food and cooking fully, it was limitless. Since then, I really enjoy cooking and admire that who are working in this industry, and I hope that one day, want to be a one of them and be a part of the world. Even though It took me for a while to understand what is being a chef but now cooking is obviously became one of precious and essential thing in my life.
- Are you working in the industry?
No, but I am currently looking for job.
- Your personal philosophy of cooking.
Even I just got into a culinary school but as a young ambitious cook, I want to run a own restaurant. At the moment, I have know idea that what is going to be but one thing that I want to make sure and emphasize is that people who come to my restaurant would have an great experience which mean is that the place would be a great place to have meal and to experience of new thing that is unlike to other restaurants. In addition, I believe that cooking is a foam of communication in some sort of ways, so I want to share that my point of view of the world in a lot of ways to give them some realization of new thing that they do not know as well as delicious food.

- A culinary quote with citation
You don't grow on a secure path. All of us should conquer something in like. And it needs a lot of work. And it needs a lot of risk. In order to grow and improve you have to be there, at the edge of uncertainty -Francis Mallmann-

GRACE YEUNG gracelisamay.com
Grace Yeung is a Toronto based blogger and photographer. Grace started her blog as a creative space to share all the things she is passionate about – food, travel and lifestyle. She hopes to share her experiences through her photos and story content.
Here is Grace's blog that I have found through the internet. The most reason why I love about her blog is that the quality of photos that she took. As a big fan of photography and art, her photograph skill is truly phenomenal and the following description of food is made to be easily understandable for visitors. But I wish that to be there are more information of food in terms of depth, not just introducing food and restaurant for visitors(it looks like advertisement in some post). It would be turned into a great forum if she add some more knowledge into her post.
